String Of Bananas is groovy hanging succulent. Mine was getting leggy at the top so I pruned it so I could plant the cuttings back in at the top. Propagating a String Of Bananas plant is easy & fast to do - you'll see!

My String Of Hearts has been growing like crazy in the warm desert temps & was badly in need of a haircut. I pruned about 3′ of trails off of it 5 or 6 weeks ago. Growing in the same hanging pot is a String Of Bananas & a String of Pearls.
I noticed the trails of the SOBs had started to branch & fill out but the tops were getting a little bare. I decided it was time to get on with the propagating of my String Of Bananas plant & do some filling in.
I pruned off a couple of trails, both about 6″ long, to propagate & then plant back in the pot. Planting the cuttings in straight succulent & cactus mix 1st in order to root them is what I wanted to do rather than plant them directly in the hanging pot.
I have to climb on a stool to water the hanging pot (which grows on my patio) so I could better control the moisture. I didn’t want the cuttings to go too dry or stay constantly wet.
I transplanted the cuttings into the hanging pot about 3 weeks later. They’re barely hanging over the edge of the pot but it’s winter now & I won’t see much if any growth until the temps warm back up in late February or so.
